Amritsar in the history known as Ramdaspur and colloquially as Ambarsar, is a city in north-western part in India. Amritsar, literally meaning the 'Pool of the Nectar of Immortality'. Amritsar is the heart and soul of the Sikhs and the spiritual centre for the Sikh religion. The city was founded in the late 16th century by Guru Ramdas Sahib, the fourth guru of the Sikhs. He only begin work of the magnificent Golden Temple, surrounded by a beautiful tank, which was meant as a sacred place of pilgrimage of Sikhs. Guru Arjan Dev Sahib, the fifth guru, later went on to further develop and beautify the temple architecture.
