An Introduction to Applied Case Studies

Many students learn better using real-life examples, and applied case studies can be an effective way to learn. Case-studies, most of which are in the form that enhance one’s ability to remember the core-concepts put forth, and have the amazing potential to enrapture students even when they are pertaining to the boring-most topics.
The case study outlines 'live' projects. Live projects are actual client projects that involve gaining understanding about and training one’s mind to carry out things rather than just thinking abstractly about doing them is just as important as academic learning, if not more.
This reiterates the fact that if concepts are taught with the practical approach, they are never forgotten.

Applied case studies support applied learning and makes RTC a class ahead than institutional training

Over the years, NSPL RTC has developed a rich collection of cases, and exercises related to diverse sectors. Most NSPL RTC cases are tested in organization before delivering to customer. Applied case studies are provided in collaboration with NSPL and other allied IT companies.

Advantages of Applied Case Studies

A major advantage of teaching with case studies is that the students are actively engaged in figuring out the principles by abstracting from the examples. This develops their skills in:

  • Students can solve the problems through the usage of analytical tools, quantitative and/or qualitative depending on the case which results in enhancing the problem solving skills.

  • Case studies reflect the reality of decision-making in the real world, in that students must make decisions based on insufficient information. Cases reflect the ambiguity and complexity that accompany most complex issues.

  • By doing case studies, one can learn new cognitive skills as well as improve their analysis and evaluation skills.

  • To become skilled enough to tackle and come up with solutions related to real world problems, even before actually facing them.

  • This sharpens their creative bent of mind, encourages them to think out of the box and hence, prepares them to become an asset for their future employers and the world in general.

  • Case studies are one of the best ways to stimulate new research. A case study can be completed, and if the findings are valuable, they can lead to new and advanced research in the field.

  • Case studies have the ability to give insight into phenomena that cannot be learned in any other way.

  • Most of the case exercises are usually group activities that, after a lot of brainstorming, facilitate exchange of ideas, intellect and hence, foster team spirit in individuals.

  • Also, the ensuring discussions in class, and at times, presentations of the analysis instill in students the confidence to present/discuss one’s ideas in front of a bunch of people without hesitation.

  • Practical learning includes things that facilitate one master skills and abilities, through which one obtain clarity about one’s chosen career path.
